With the limited appointment times for Apple Watch customers, especially those of us without $15,000 burning a hole in our pockets, it is going to be important to have a good idea of what you want before going in to purchase your watch. Not only do you have to decide which size and case style you want, you also get to choose between several band options for each model. This is especially important because, while most bands can be purchased separately at a later time, there are a few that are only available bundled with a particular watch model. To make things more complicated, Apple has not published a simple list that tells you which bands are not available for purchase separately. But fear not! We have done the hard work for you. Read on to learn about the Apple Watch bands you can’t buy.
For the Sport bands, all the colors (black, white, pink, blue, and green) are available for purchase separately, but there are special versions with color-matched gold hardware that only come with the Apple Watch Edition. The gold case comes with a black Sport band with a gold peg, while the rose gold comes with a white band and matching peg. Similarly, while the Classic Buckle can be purchased individually (but only in black), there is a special version with gold hardware that only comes bundled with a yellow gold Edition. There is also a special Midnight Blue Classic Buckle that is unique to the Edition.
For the Modern Buckle, there are two special colors that only come with Edition models and are not available for purchase otherwise. These are the Rose Gray band with rose gold buckle and the Bright Red band with yellow gold buckle, coming with rose gold and yellow gold watches respectively. These also happen to be the most expensive Apple Watches available, at a cost of $17,000.
The ultra-expensive Apple Watch Edition isn’t the only model with an exclusive band, though. The standard, stainless steel Apple Watch is available in a Space Black color, and that watch comes with a matching Space Black Link Bracelet. The Link Bracelet is only available in unfinished stainless steel if you want to pick one up after the fact.
There are no special Milanese Loop or Leather Loop bands. The Milanese is only available in unfinished steel, while the Leather Loop’s four colors are all available for purchase. Apart from these few, all other Apple Watch bands can be purchased individually and matched with whatever model of Apple Watch you like.
There is one other complication in the process of choosing your Apple Watch, though. The watch is available in two case sizes, 38mm and 42mm. The Sport band, Milanese Loop, Classic Buckle, and Link Bracelet are available in either size, in any color. The Leather Loop and Modern Buckle, however, are not. The Modern Buckle is only available for 38mm Apple Watch cases, even if you choose a model that comes with one. Similarly, the Leather Loop is only available for the 42mm watch.
There is a lot to think about when it comes to which Apple Watch configuration is going to be right for you. Luckily, if the band is a deciding factor, the fact that most of the unique bands are only available with Edition models should make the decision that much easier.
